Preliminary Ecological Appraisals

Also known as a (Extended) Phase 1 Habitat Survey or Ecological Appraisal, a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal is a baseline survey often required to accompany a planning application. A walkover of the site will involve identifying the different habitats, species (flora and fauna) and any potential or suitability for other species. A desk study of ecological records within the area is used to accompany the report and inform decisions when assessing the sites importance. A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal will identify whether any addition surveys are required, such as bat, badger, bird or reptile.
